My work explores identity through the concept of personal background and future self. I pursue my obsession with the female form as it becomes a self-reflection. I use color variations and mark making, to explore my desires and how they stem from childhood. My subject matter is distorted through the treatment of paint and leaves the viewer weaving between figurative and abstract imagery as one would navigate through memories. The balance of texture between figure and ground is incorporated as the under painting represents the foundation or history. Figures are created with a collection of marks and they signify emotions and events. Every aspect of the application of paint helps to achieve the representation of the “tug of war” that occurs as an individual goes through changes in life. The incorporation of unexpected colors with built up texture in specific areas create a cohesive piece that conceptually speaks about a person’s history and how it has shaped their true desires.
